ABOUT
Jason Fruchter
Illustrator, Animator, Designer
Thank you for taking time to view my illustration portfolio. The work displayed on this website represents a collection of what I've done since 2001 to creating fun, vibrant children's book illustration and designs for some of the largest publishing companies in the world including: Penguin Random House, Simon and Schuster, Scholastic, Harper Collins, and Oxford University Press. It also includes a few of my own personal projects as well.
Ever since I can remember I always loved to draw. I guess you can say drawing and creating art are part of my DNA. It's what I was meant to do!  As a kid growing up in Matawan, NJ, I absorbed all I could from classic TV cartoons, Disney animation, and comics. I always had some kind of art project to work on, like creating my own comic strips or painting heavy metal album covers on the backs of denim jackets. My childhood and teenage years were full of art projects that laid the foundation for what was to come.
My journey to become a professional artist started at the Rhode Island School of Design. It was at RISD that I honed my drawing and design skills and created my first animated films. I graduated not exactly knowing what would come next, but was dedicated to making it on my own!
I began my professional career in New York City, where I worked for 10 years creating animation, illustration, and graphics for design studios. After that I switched my focus to children's book illustration. Through hard work, dedication, and most importantly keeping deadlines, I established long term relationships with top art directors and designers in the industry. I collaborated with well known production studios such as Nickelodeon, Disney Jr., and Marvel to become an official approved illustrator for their licensed properties.
As I said, this website contains not only client work, but a few personal projects as well. These include original properties developed for broadcast TV, streaming video on demand, mobile apps, and book publishing. I created pitch bibles for each original property that contain a summary of the concept, characters, and potential episode ideas. Also, I illustrated, designed, and authored a self-published book titled A Caricature History of the Presidents of the United States (available at Amazon.com). The book contains caricature portraits of all the presidents. I continued my caricature pursuits by drawing several famous celebrities. Just like when I was a kid, I continue to come up with art projects that challenge my abilities and push me in new directions, opening the door to wonderful opportunities yet to come. Here's to the future, it's looking very bright!
